"That's the big take home. It's not just like, "Hey, make less trash, the trash guy did it," but find where meaning is for you, and believe that you can make a difference if you learn about yourself."
-Ari Derfel
Late last month I interviewed Ari Derfel, CEO and co-owner of
Back to Earth, Inc., about saving all of his trash for one year. Below is an edited transcript of our interview for the
Big Vision Podcast. You can also listen to it on this little player:
WOW - truly inspiring!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Hi there ~ My hope is that we learn from this. I was visiting my Grandmother a few years back when i noticed something very odd. She had a drawer with rubber bands, twist ties, baggies...etc... also a cupboard with containers like jelly jars / plastic reclosable lunch meat containers. The list goes on and on. Turns out - she does not own tupperware and has never purchased rubber bands and many other items as well. This was such a shock - she reused it all.
ReplyDeleteNow - I reuse! I have also started a "re-using" club at work. We designed and made our own grocery bag and gave 3 to each employee. (greensak.com helped us!)We make small note pads from our used copies. We no longer have disposable plates/cups etc...
It was so easy and we keep adding just a little bit to our daily routine.
Easy Peasy
Great ideas green and lovin' it!
ReplyDeleteDear Britt,
ReplyDeleteWe at Rugmark Foundation are working to bring the Campaign to End Child Labor to increasingly broad audiences. In order to achieve our goal and educate as many consumers as possible, we want to be sure that every time an online user searches words such as ‘rugs,’ our website will be ranked among the top options.
To accomplish this, we need your help. We are grateful that you posted an article about RugMark in your blog on Friday, January 12, 2007(Does Your Imported Rug Have a RugMark?). We also noticed that you provided a link to RugMark’s website. If you could update the existing link with a specific title text, it can make a big difference in the final ranking of our site pages.
This is a simple task, and would involve just adding few words to the html code of the link so it looks like:
"http://rugmark.org/" title="A global nonprofit organization working to ensure child-labor free rugs and carpets" target="_blank">
What we would like to change is not the URL, but the title text. A title text is a shadow sentence that appears when the online browser moves the mouse over the text.
If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 202-234-9050 or email me at intern@RugMark.org.
Thank you for your support and consideration.
Sincerely,
Breno Oliveira
