Do Good Graduation Gift Giveaway: Work on Purpose from Echoing Green

When I graduated from college, I was a mess. I'd gained all kinds of knowledge and ideals, but had no idea how to use them in the real world. I knew I wanted to make a difference, but didn't how.

I wish I'd had a book like Work on Purpose by Echoing Green's Senior Vice President, Lara Galinsky, with Kelly Nuxoll. Work on Purpose tells the stories of five changemakers:

Their stories are told within the framework of how integrating and balancing their heart (passion) and their head (talents) created hustle (personal fulfillment and societal impact). Reflection questions are sprinkled throughout the book, and there are 150+ career resources and programs listed in the back.

*I have 3 copies of Work on Purpose to give away to 3 young graduates.* Wahoo!

To enter, please leave a comment describing why a young graduate you care about (it could be you) needs this book. The deadline to leave a comment is May 31, 2011 at 8:00 PM ET/ 5:00 PM PT.  Please include a way for me to contact you (e.g. email, website, Twitter name) if you win. The winners will be notified by June 3rd.

Full disclosure: I was the host of Echoing Green's Be Bold Podcast, and contributed to the Work on Purpose Instructor's Guide (coming soon).

  1. A young graduate would love this book because our generation is one that likes to mesh work with meaning, and this will give them a guide for what other people have done. My twitter handle is @cherisanerd and my email is cherkelleyhale@gmail.com

  2. My sister would benefit greatly from this book! She just graduated with a bachelors in Business/Accounting and she is struggling to find her place in the working world. She is currently working as a bank teller but is unsure the direction she wants to take next - whether it be law school, nursing, or something completely different! One thing is for sure - this book will inspire her to do good in whatever career path she chooses.

  4. I guess it´s way after 8pm in the US. :-) Is it possible to buy the book somewhere online? I´ll be finishing my bachelor studies in International Business in October 2011. I have been interested in corporate social responsibility, ethical business and green business since the start of my studies. Been member of two SIFE teams (www.sife.org) and studied nonprofit management. Wonder if the book provides inspiration on how to find a job/work in a green and responsible way. email: kate@helloscotland.com Cheers!

  5. I would really appreciate a book like this. I'm fresh out of grad school and I'm turning down job offers to 'do good'. I'm currently working on a web startup: Unstash, is all about collaborative consumption, cultivating stronger communities, and making a difference for humanity and for the planet. Our team and I could use all the inspiration, help, and advice we can get. -Samuel (samuel@unstash.com)
