What are your favorite nonprofit blogs?

What are you favorite nonprofit blogs? Not personal blogs about nonprofits, or by people who work for nonprofits, but by the nonprofits themselves.

I am giving a talk about nonprofits and blogging at the Professional Development Conference for Nonprofits sponsored by the United Way of Kern County and would love some fresh examples. I have my list of favs that I often use, but I would love to highlight some new ones.

I'll send the first person to post the names of five amazing, effective, fun to read nonprofit blogs a Have Fun * Do Good mug or tote bag (your choice).

The guidelines are:
• The blog must be written by staff of a nonprofit of NGO
• It has an RSS feed
• It allows comments
• You enjoy reading it!

Thanks for your help!

  1. Here are the ones I like:

So No Child Must Wait -

    First Book -

    Makehope -

    Benetech -

    iAbolish -

    Hope this is helpful!

  2. Oops - I realized that the Benetech blog does not allow comments. So to make up for that, my favorite example of a public agency blog (which I think qualifies for nonprofit) is the LA Fire Department's site ( I'll be posting an interview with the LAFD blogger this week (I hope) on my site.

Have you ever seen Shaping Youth?

    Founded by an advertising/marketing veteran,
Shaping Youth is demanding accountability from that industry for its negative messages targeting children... She's got her work cut out for her, but this blog is a GREAT read...

  4. Thanks for the links, Nedra and Betsy!

Nedra, It looks like you are the winner! Let me know if you would like a mug or tote and where to send it to.

Betsy, I am familiar with the Shaping Youth blog. Amy is a frequent commenter here as well.

    My favorite 5:

    Katya Anderson's Nonprofit Marketing blog:

    The Nonprofit Congress blog:

    Where Most Needed

    N-TEN's blog

    Idealware's blog

And there's no relation between Nedra and me!

Hope this helps extend the reach of all these blogs!

I don't have too much time to read blogs, but I really like Shaping I'm the host of a radio show, Childhood Matters, and will soon (next week) have our podcasting up and running. All of our shows are on the web at
    Check us out!
Just signed up for your blog.

  7. One blog in particular on which I'd like to shine some light is

It's an annual, short-term, narrative-based service-learning blog maintained by students of the Union Theological Seminary -- progressive stuff. The nonprofit of which it's a part is

I hope this helps. Thanks for the engaging prompt.

  8. Thanks for encouraging people to submit their favorate blogs. I will check these out.

I've been inspired by the blog exchange idea since Betsy first launched hers about two years ago. Now I'm trying to find a volunteer who will help create a blog exchange that connects volunteers, donors, board members, youth, etc. who are involved in volunteer-based tutoring and/or mentoring programs.

My goal is to aggregate these blogs in the Links Library at and to encourage them to blog topics during the May and November period when we host a conference in Chicago ( and when we're trying to create public awareness that would attract more volunteers and donors to these programs.

I hope that some of the people who read blogs like yours will be people who already blog these topics, and might want to help create the type of exchange I describe.

  9. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. They are a huge help!
